本研究的目的以寵物為主題,設計國民小學五六年級英語的課程,作為英語教師的輔助教材,誘發國小學生的學習興趣。希望學生們能對英文產生興趣,不畏懼英文。本研究假設國小的學生,大都是喜愛小動物 (寵物) 的,因此引起研究者設計以寵物為主題創新課程。研究者在台北市一所小學,做了份問卷調查,發現大部分的學生喜愛小寵物的,而在所有寵物中,特別是喜歡狗。但是檢驗國小英語教科書,卻鮮少有以小動物為主題,作為英語課程的教材。因此本研究者,以寵物為主題,採用兒童英語教學專家課程設計,作為國小英語教師的輔助教材。本研究課程設計內容以說故事和唱歌為主,搭配動物角色貫穿內容。另外設計字彙網,搭配學童肢體語言活動,希望本研究可以激發小朋友們學習英語的興趣。

The purpose of this study is to integrate pet-themed material into the fifth- and sixth-grade English curriculum, on the assumption that elementary school students are fond of animals, especially pets, and will therefore find such material enjoyable. A questionnaire found that most of the students at a Taipei elementary school do indeed like pets, especially dogs. Unfortunately, few elementary school English textbooks incorporate animal or pet themes. The researcher therefore compiled some supplementary material, such as stories and songs, from English-language children’s books with a pet theme. The emphasis is on vocabulary building along with classroom activities. It is hoped that this work can serve as a pioneer study demonstrating how teachers can use pet themes to create meaningful and exciting learning opportunities for students.
